Notes not generating
Occasionally, Granola can get a little stuck after it's captured the transcription. This most commonly impacts our iOS app, so here are some steps to get you unblocked.
Troubleshooting Notes Generation Issues in Our iOS App
If you find yourself stuck on the "Generating Notes" screen after ending your recording, there are a few steps you can take to resolve the issue. This guide will help you navigate through the troubleshooting process.
Step 1: Wait a few minutes
If your recording is a long one (>1 hour) or you have a slow internet connection, generation can take a few minutes. This will happen in the background, so feel free to go to another app in the meantime. You'll be notified when it's generated.
Step 2: Force Close the App
If it has been a while and the app is still generating notes, try force closing the app:
Swipe up from the bottom of your screen (or double-click the home button on older devices) to view your open apps. Find the Granola app and swipe it up to close it completely.
After a few moments, reopen the app. It may still take a few minutes for the notes to generate, especially if you have a long recording or a slow internet connection.
Step 3: Check for Pause/End Indicators
If you see a pause indicator showing, you may need to tap 'end' on the note again to re-trigger summarization. Open the note and tap click the End button to do this.
Step 4: Send us your logs & we'll investigate
If the notes still do not generate after following the above steps, please send us logs with information about what happened and the note that was impacted. This will help us diagnose the issue more effectively.
To do this, go to the menu (tap your profile picture) and then tap 'report a bug'. Describe your issue, and then 'include logs', then 'send'. We aim to get back to you within a working day.
Issues with generating notes on Granola for Windows or macOS
Occasionally, you might see a message about a failure to generate notes, or a blank page being generated. We're constantly improving this behaviour, but in the meantime, if you ever see these errors:
If there's a retry button, click that. It uses a different fallback method to connect to our LLMs, so should do the trick if the first attempt at generating notes failed.
You can also manually regenerate the notes by clicking 'Auto', then the small cycle icon if you hover over the 'Auto' item at the top of the menu.
In addition to the steps above, you can try regenerating the notes. Make sure to check if the transcript exists. If you encounter any issues, please refer to our issues page for more information.
